Ernie Harwell - Part 2

Last year I posted a blog about famous people I had met and one of them was Baseball Hall of Fame Radio Announcer for the Detroit Tigers, Ernie Harwell. Back in 1990 I was living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Michigan University had commissioned me to illustrate a caricature of Mr. Harwell. He was going to give the Mid-Year Commencement speech that year as well as receiving an honorary doctor of humanities degree. The caricature was presented to him at a special dinner the night before the commencement. You can read about that here.

I recently came across a couple of other momentos from that special night. One is the newspaper article announcing that Ernie Harwell will be coming to NMU to speak at the commencement. And the other is the program from the dinner where Ernie received the caricature.  He very kindly signed it for me as a thank you for the caricature. 

It was such a pleasure and a huge honor to meet this fine gentleman. Ernie had placed his hope and trust in Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Savior and is now enjoying being in the presence of the Lord. I look forward to meeting him in Heaven. How about you?
