I've been asked to reveal my most embarrassing cartoon. However, it is my firm belief that some things in life should not be relived, much less blogged about before all twenty or so of my readers. So instead of digging deep to find some cartoon that has been thankfully forgotten about, I am going to share a list of my least favorite After Eden cartoons.
Even a cartoonist like Gary Larson of Far Side fame must have cartoons that he looks at now and says, "what was I thinking?" I certainly have some that I look at now and think, "well that didn't quite turn out like I thought it would." But such is life for people that try to be creative. We hit and miss. Here are some of my misses. At least they are misses to me. These are listed in alphabetical order. Enjoy ... but not too much!

I really, really like "Watch what you say". I don't think it's a failure at all.
ReplyDeleteI just caught up with your Hall of Shame! I'm afraid I think some are very good. Should I be embarrassed? In the Hall of Shame, I liked-:
ReplyDeleteCats and Dogs - because I'm a dog lover, and I love pointing out to people that should they die at home alone, a dog will sit by their corpse and pine away till the cops break their door two weeks later, whereas it'll take a cat 24 hours to work out, "Well he's not gonna feed me any more, so I might as well eat him."
Evolving Olympics - because it's good to point out to people that the self-destructive wickedness of man disproves evolution and proves the Bible.
In His Time - because that is a big problem in many church denominations. No organisation is immune to evolutionary teaching. James 4:7 is the answer.
Life's Journey - because that's something I tire of pointing out to people. WE'VE messed up, not God!
Watch What You Say - you've intended that as a warning about the tongue, which it is, but for me it is also a strong message about the sheer ingratitude of not believing in God. The wondrous, incredible, outstanding world around us is such strong evidence for the things unseen.
What's Wrong? - because it would be a good one for the school / newspaper / pub quiz.
Why? - because it sums up beautifully Life's Journey and
Watch What You Say. Say you gave me the keys to your country house for the summer, and told me that I was welcome to help myself to as much fruit as I could eat from your very well planted gardens, save for that one tree down at the far corner of the bottom fence, because that's your personal tree. How ungrateful and selfish would I have to be to disobey that one request?
You'll be relieved to know that I felt the remaining cartoons in this gallery were not up to your usual standard.
Yeah, there are definitely some weird ones there. "Cats and Dogs" is one that really shouldn't have been released.
ReplyDeleteI see what appears to be a running theme in many of Dan's cartoons which depict married life as less than blissful. I'm not sure what to make of that...
I hate to disagree with you, Dan, but the first two are downright funny!
